....So I Had Surgery (Life Update)
So…I’ve been away for a while. I stopped posting blogs because I physically and mentally couldn’t do it. My last post was in January 2022 and a lot has happened since then so this post is to get you up to speed.
How I’ve Been Feeling
I was on Remicade (a biologic) for around eight months and I was steadily getting worse. By August 2022, I could barely walk other than going to the bathroom, I had massive brain fog which made it difficult to focus on conversations, remember things and process information. My intestinal swelling was getting so bad that it looked like I was between five and seven months pregnant at all times. Above all, my body was tolerating less and less food everyday which led to rapid weight loss.
I had my regularly scheduled GI appointment in August, and we decided that I needed to switch biologics (more on that in an upcoming post). He also referred me to a GI surgeon at Mount Sinai hospital in Toronto. Long story short, I had my surgical consultation at the end of August and the surgeon said that I was “impressively inflamed” and needed surgery ASAP. I got a call three weeks later with a surgery date.
Baby’s First Resection Surgery
On October 21st, I had a resection surgery. I had 20 cm of my small intestine removed and the surgeon said it was the most diseased tissue he had ever seen (I’m putting out a post specifically about the surgery soon). I spent five days in the hospital and I have a six-week recovery period at home. At the time of writing this, I am about halfway through my at-home recovery and things are going great. I am going on long walks, I have energy to do the things I enjoy, I don’t have brain fog anymore, and I can eat solid food again. I’m able to live life for the first time in almost a year and a half.
So….where do I go from here?
Next Steps
Well, I will have another surgery in about six months (if all goes well) and then, after that recovery period, I will officially be in remission (yay!). It’s been a really long and painful road to get to where I am now, but now I’m ready to pick up the pieces and get my life back together again. Which brings me to my birthday month….
My Birthday Month
It was my birthday on November 9th so I am now entering the last year of my twenties. I have so many things that I want to do and now that I am feeling healthier and getting stronger everyday, I’m taking advantage of it and going full steam ahead. This month, I’m reviving the blog and posting content on a regular basis again. I am starting a Twitch channel; I’m opening my Etsy shop; and I’m also taking a three month course to switch careers!
I’m closing out 2022 with a bang so stay tuned for lots of content and a wild ride ahead.
Thank you for the support <3.
