2022 New Year's Resolutions

2022 New Year's Resolutions

If you haven’t read my year-end review, you can do so here, but in this post, I will be going over a few of my 2022 New Year’s Resolutions.

I am a goal-oriented person so I enjoy setting New Year’s resolutions every year. I don’t accomplish most of them, but I do learn a lot about myself along the way which is, in my opinion, the most important part.

This year, I’m doing things a bit differently. I’m going to have my list of resolutions but I’ll be checking in throughout the year in regards to progress, what has been working and what hasn’t been working. In this list, I’m only including SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-based) goals.

In my previous post, I touched on things that I want to bring into the new year and things that I want to leave behind. I view those as fluid lifestyle changes that can be achieved in multiple ways (which makes them terrible SMART goals). I will be reflecting on my progress with those, but more so as an intention rather than a tangible goal.

Without further ado, here are some of my SMART goals for 2022.

1. Start a Hobby Shop (March 2022)

I’ve always been a creative person when it comes to building, crafting, and creating things. However, since most of my career and schooling has been in the sciences, I haven’t experienced creative fulfillment. This is why I have decided to work towards opening an Etsy shop and selling small batch items that I create for fun. That way I get to experience creative fulfillment while also generating a small income (hopefully) to fund other creative endeavors.

SMART goal: to launch my shop with at least two products by the end of March 2022.

2. Finish Condo ver. 1.5 (July 2022)

I am still trying to make my condo feel like home. I still have to finish painting the whole place, get a few more décor pieces, and definitely add more DIY elements. The title has ver. 1.5 because, by July, the condo will not be in its final iteration, but it will be as far as it can go for the time being. I’ve been enjoying the process of transforming this space and learning basic handyman skills like changing an outlet or installing a light fixture. 2022 is going to be an exciting year for condo makeover content.

SMART goal: to finish painting and decorating the condo according to my vision of version 1.5 by June 30th.

3. Schedule, Schedule, Schedule (January 2022)

I want to give scheduling another try this year. I feel very strongly that prioritizing scheduling on a weekly basis is going to be my biggest key to juggling work, school, and personal life. I have tried scheduling in the past but have not been able to stick to it for the long term because I have not yet found a method that works for me. Another issue is that I would run out of time to plan every week and would eventually stop planning altogether.

This year I’m making the mental shift to prioritize planning every weekend and check in to see if I need to make any changes to my method. I feel that doing more frequent check-ins will help keep me on the bandwagon but also address/fix issues before they get too bad.

SMART goal: I will sit down and schedule the next week the weekend before every week of 2022 and make note of one thing that went well and one thing that did not.
